Communicating in High School

Communicating in high school can be difficult. Teachers expect us to act like adults, and sometimes their pushiness can come off as hostile. If the student perceives the teacher that way they most likely won't speak to them. If the classmates are obnoxious and rude and don't mind their own business, that can lead someone to avoid communication as well. However, sometimes students are just shy. They may or not be shy at home, but at school they are afraid of what some might say if they speak their mind. Usually it wears off by their senior year though, I've seen it happen to many.

  1. Very true, I totally agree with you. I sometimes don't start a conversation with other people in class because they are rude or mean. Sometimes I'm really shy and I done't communicate with others as well.

  2. It's true how many students are afraid to speak up because of how judgmental their classmates are. There is nothing worse than staying quiet or avoiding to verbally say your beliefs. Everyone is entitled to say whatever they want and shouldn't have to worry about what others think.

  3. It is fun for teachers to see the progression from a student they had as a freshman to when they are seniors. Some do mature and grow confident with their ideas and thoughts. In my years of teaching I have had some students that remain as quiet and reserved as they were when they were 9th graders. It is sad that students don't feel free to express themselves; no matter what age, there are always going to be people who judge or make comments. My philosophy is that if you are basing your decisions, opinions and ideas on your own ethical value system, then unless you are a criminal, you will more than likely mature so that you will gain confidence to speak your mind as you age!
