Are Ethics and Morals the Same Thing?

Ethics and morals are not the same thing. Ethics are what a person believes is right and wrong. While morals is what society as a whole defines as right and wrong. For example, if a lawyer gets assigned to a case where he doesn't believe in the person he is defending, he must do his job anyway. Morally it is the right thing to do. Sometimes morals go above ethics and vice versa. It just depends on what the person believes and feels is right.

    You are completely correct but, involving a lawyer doesn't matter what his ethics or everyone's moral is he is paid to do what he can for his customer/business. Sometimes morals do go over ethics. Which should happen all the time I do not think it is a great idea for some one who is in greater power to make decisions for everyone.

    Juan your last statement made me think about decisions that have greatly affected our world. I would hope that a top manager or business owner thinks about the decisions that could ultimately affect his or her employees, especially if it puts them in a moral conflict, for example the woman that worked in a state where gay marriages were allowed was morally against gay marriage, but her boss told her she had to sign the wedding licenses. Well she refused and was put in jail, but she has not lost her job. That is an interesting case where morals are connected to religious beliefs too.

    Maritza, what do you believe is right? Your post made us think, that's for sure, but i was curious about what you would do, if you were the one having to work on something that was opposite from your moral beliefs.

    I agree with you about what ethics and morals are. A lot of people have a different view of them. The one you look at ethics and morals is all base on you.

    Maritza I also agree with you in what you believe ethics and morals are, and how most people use them. Some might get confused and mix them but i can see why. They can be taken as having almost the same meaning, but i know they're not.

    I agree with you Maritza. Sometimes you also have to but morals above ethics or ethics above morals.
